We can transfer the following types of audio reel-to-reel tape to MP4 format.

• 1 Track ¼ inch tape
• 2 Track ¼ inch tape
• 4 Track ¼ inch tape

We can transfer tapes recorded at the following speeds.

• 3 ½ inches per second
• 7 inches per second
• 15 inches per second (these were used by high-end users for more professional recordings in studios.

The faster the tape speed, the higher the audio quality, but the recording time is lowered.

What is the difference between 2 track and 4 track audio tapes?

2 Track Reel-to-Reel Tapes

All things being equal, 2 track tapes reproduce better quality sound as they use more of the physical tape width for recording the audio signal. The tapes play in one direction and can record stereo music.

4 Track Reel-to-Reel Tapes

These tapes, as the name implies, had a total of 4 tracks and you could record two tracks in one direction and then turn the tape over and record another two tracks in the opposite direction. The quality of the sound, all things being equal, was not as good as the two track tapes, but the advantage was that a tape could record for twice the total recording length of the two track tapes.
